What a Darwin trip costs

Prices swing hard with season. Through the Dry, accommodation runs at its peak and hire cars are the pinch point. In tropical summer the same rooms can drop substantially, which is the trade you make for rain and closures.

  • Accommodation: hostels and caravan parks at the low end, Waterfront hotels at the top
  • Hire car: the biggest single variable. Book months ahead for Dry season travel
  • Food: markets and wharf meals keep daily costs down; CBD restaurants are city-priced
  • Park passes: Kakadu requires a pass, and Northern Territory parks fees apply elsewhere
  • Tours: cruises and day tours are the main discretionary spend
